How activate SEF urls in Joomla 1.5

If you want to activate SEF URLs on your joomla website, and don't want to use any component for this, you can do it very easy.

  1. login to the administration panel
  2. go to the -> Global Configuration
  3. in the Site tab activate the Search Engine Friendly URLs, by clicking on the YES radio button and hitting apply

It's easy, and don't need to use any component or plugin for this. You can also rewrite joomla URLs, but this is an other tutorial.

 

How to rewrite URLs with Joomla 1.5

If you want to rewrite URLs with joomla, than you need to activate the mod_rewrite from the administrator panel.

  1. login to the back-end joomla
  2. go to the Global Configuration settings
  3. in the Site tab, in the right side of the scree, activate the mod_rewrite option
  4. login to your FTP account and find in the joomla installation folder the htaccess.txt file
  5. rename the htaccess.txt -> .htaccess

Note: you also need to activate the SEF URLs on joomla.

 

How to create advertising banners with Joomla 1.5

If you want to use your joomla website to advertise products or service using banners, than you will need to read this tutorial.

  1. go the the Components -> Banners
  2. go to the Clients tab and create a new one (giving some information about the client what you want to advertise)
  3. after this go to the Categories tab and create a category
  4. now it is time to create your first banner using the Banners tab (here you will need to choose the client and the category you already created, add link and choose a banner image from those you have uploaded to your sever via FTP)

Using the banner component you can also use custom banner codes.

 

Add new module position to Joomla 1.5 Template

This simple tutorial will teach you how to add a module position to your favorite joomla 1.5 template. We will also show you how to customize the new module position.

You can add the new module position right on the template manager, with the HTML editor.

Adding the new module position:

  • open the index.php with the HTML editor and go to the line where you want to add the new module
  • insert the following code: <?php if ($this->countModules('newmodule)) : ?><div id="newmodule" ><jdoc:include type="modules" name="newmodule" style="xhtml" /></div><?php endif; ?>
  • save the file, go to the module manager and place the module on the "newmodule" position.
  • this new position will not be available in the position selector, but you just need to type in and save the module.

Style the new module with CSS (style="xhtml")

  • #newmodule .moduletable {}
  • #newmodule .moduletable h3 {}
  • #newmodule .moduletable_menu {}

Add these codes to the template css file, and customize them as you want.

 

How to create a Sub Menu item in Joomla 1.5

Create Sub Menu item in Joomla 1.5

If your template have a suckerfish menu option and you want to create drop-down sub menus, this tutorial will help you to do this.

  1. Login to your joomla administrator panel
  2. Go to the Menus menu and select the menu, where you want to add a sub menu. Select for example the Top Menu item
  3. Create a new menu pressing the New button on the right of the screen, choose where you want to link that menu (to an article or component, or maybe an external link)
  4. In the Title and Alias box insert the menu name.
  5. Now, to create a sub menu, you need to choose a parent menu from the Parent Item box.
  6. Save the menu, and you are done!

Note: don't forget to activate in the module manager for the menu module to show up the sub menu items.
