This simple tutorial will teach you how to add a module position to your favorite joomla 1.5 template. We will also show you how to customize the new module position.

You can add the new module position right on the template manager, with the HTML editor.

Adding the new module position:

  • open the index.php with the HTML editor and go to the line where you want to add the new module
  • insert the following code: <?php if ($this->countModules(‘newmodule)) : ?><div id=”newmodule” ><jdoc:include type=”modules” name=”newmodule” style=”xhtml” /></div><?php endif; ?>
  • save the file, go to the module manager and place the module on the “newmodule” position.
  • this new position will not be available in the position selector, but you just need to type in and save the module.

Style the new module with CSS (style=”xhtml”)

  • #newmodule .moduletable {}
  • #newmodule .moduletable h3 {}
  • #newmodule .moduletable_menu {}

Add these codes to the template css file, and customize them as you want.
